Acteon

The hounds, you know them all by name.
You fostered them from purblind whelps
At their dam’s teats, and you have come
To know the music of their yelps:

High-strung Anthee, the brindled bitch,
The blue-tick coated Philomel,
And freckled Chloe, who would fetch
A pretty price if you would sell—

All fleet of foot, and swift to scent,
Inexorable once on the track,
Like angry words you might have meant,
But do not mean, and can’t take back.

There was a time when you would brag
How they would bay and rend apart
The hopeless belling from a stag.
You falter now for the foundered hart.

Desires you nursed of a winter night—
Did you know then why you bred them—
Whose needling milk-teeth used to bite
The master’s hand that leashed and fed them?
Why I chose the poem Actaeon when scrolling though the various poems, then I saw the name Actaeon. I thought it would be about a planets or something in space, but it was about a dog. In this poem its about couple of blood hounds and it's owner seeing how it went from great to, " Oh God why did I do this". It shows how something seems like nice idea at first then you see the results and it wasn't such a great idea at all now. In general I thought it was something that can teach a good lesson.

1. Like angry words you might have meant, But do not mean, and can’t take back.- Why I like it is because it describes once you've done something there is no way taking way.
2.All fleet of foot, and swift to scent, Inexorable once on the track.- Once a blood hound has the scent, then it can't stop until it finds what it wants.
3. How they would bay and rend apart, The hopeless belling from a stag. - the dog can tear a deer up like a rag doll.

Across the Bay

Across the BayBy Donald Davie

A queer thing about those waters: there are no
Birds there, or hardly any.
I did not miss them, I do not remember
Missing them, or thinking it uncanny.
The beach so-called was a blinding splinter of limestone,
A quarry outraged by hulls.
We took pleasure in that: the emptiness, the hardness
Of the light, the silence, and the water’s stillness.
But this was the setting for one of our murderous scenes.
This hurt, and goes on hurting:
The venomous soft jelly, the undersides.
We could stand the world if it were hard all over.

This poem is very interesting in a weird way though. Why I really chose it is because I saw the title and I wondered what was across the bay. Also really it was just the first one I saw. Though how it makes me feel when I read is one word " puzzled". I really couldn't connect to it. Alls I really know is he's describing this beach and how horrible it is. Though this why I really liked it is because of all the details he wrote about and seems like a place I would never want to go to.

 1. The venomous soft jelly, the undersides.-  I like how he used this line to tell how horrible the beach is
2. Teh beach so-called was a blinding splinter of limestone.- I shows how small the beach is.
3.  A queer thing about those waters: there are no birds there, or hardly any. It shows how empty the beach is.

Ismene, Antigone, or Creon?

I can agree with the three of them. They all have very good reasons to be right and also to be wrong. Though who I think is right at the beginning is Creon in my opinion. He his a very important person and he's the king. Though his reason for killing Polynices isn't that great, it is still what he had to do. Since Antigone can't help the fact that the rules apply makes Creon very upset. If he let her bury Polynices in the ground on they're own turf, that just shows what a bad king he is. Creon has a reputation to keep and he can't let people break the rules. It also is a very strict rule and a very harsh punishment that follows it. Creon sentences her to death( Antigone is completely fine with it and takes full blame) and sticks with his decision. It shows that he is fearless and does what he has to do.

Why I admire Creon is so much is he is the type of person who will stick to what is right. He seems like the kind of guy who won't bend the rules for somebody. If you disobey a rule, he will smite and you will be sorry that you ever did what you weren't supposed to do. Though he also has to do these type of things. He is relatively new to the throne and can't really make and mistakes. Otherwise people will think of him as feeble. Think of what other opposing cities would do. They would walk all over him and take his land and be known as the worst king to have ever lived. There's just to much pressure that is put on him through this short time span of being king. Though he seems like he can handle it, and this shows characteristics that I like in somebody, which is why I admire him.

When Bad things happen to Good People

Unfortunately, bad things happen to good people. My dad friend can relate to this because, something bad happened to him, and he was a very loving, and caring person. It was a Saturday, and when Dad was still into motorcycles, he let his friend occasionally ride them. Well that day was a very horrible day. His friend was making a u-turn back to our neighborhood, and a old lady driving made a very stupid decision. While he's riding the old lady decides to pull out from the her neighborhood, and knocks him over. He was never the same after that. He had broke part of his spine , broke both his legs and was in a coma for a few days. He then had a good portion of his body replaced with titanium and was in the hospital for a few days. Why it had to happen to him, who knows. Though it's just unfair it had to happen to him. My dad also quit riding motorcycles after that horrific event happened on that Saturday.

I also can't really make sense of this situation. Really, why did it have to happen to him. There are reasons that possibly could've prevented this situation from happening. The old lady could've made a better decision, she should've quit driving a long time ago, and maybe he just should've driven the motorcycle that day. It's confusing and sad that that this just had to happen.

Word Tracker- "Night"

night-after hours, bedtime, midnight, darkness, night fall, dim, night time, pitch dark, dark hours, duskiness, black, sundown.

The word night is used in various ways during the reading of Macbeth. The word night was described to tell what time of day it was, or what time somebody was to meet at. It wasn't really used for anything else. Though there was on line used by one of the witches that had the word night. She was talking about how Macbeth shall sleep day or night. It was basically a curse she was going to put on him. Other than that, the word night was used a lot, but not used to describe many things.

Macbeth- The red, bleeding mess, after Macbeth has un-seemed the bloody man.
Lady Macbeth- The woman Lady Macbeth, has heart like no other, and is ready to have a war to the death.

Night- dark, scary, cool, moon, stars, spooky, black, twilight, constellations, sleep, pitch dar, hard to see, sundown, gloomy, and night fall

Lady Macbeth is a woman who has heart and is ambitious to be queen. She really wants Duncan to commit to his death, and everything would be perfect.  You can say it's killing her inside, that Macbeth, and herself are not king and queen.

Asking for Something in an Indirect Way

Andrew needs a ride home from school and needs his friend, who lives near by to drop him off at his house, with out really showing he needs a ride.

Andrew: Hey, bro you wanna give me a lift home.

Friend- I'm Good man, find someone else.

Andrew- Okay, that's cool.

Andrew- Oh, I almost forgot!

Friend- What?

Andrew- Don't we have a test tomorrow in math tomorrow.

Friend- Aw, I completely forgot. I need to go home and study.

Andrew- Do you mind if you drop me off at my house on the way?

Friend- Ya sure, no problem.

This is what I would think that Macbeth and Banquo would look like(Macbeth left, Banquo right). You would think Macbeth that Macbeth would have long hair, and he does in this picture. Banquo on the other hand is bald, and thats what I would think what he would look like. It also looks like that Banquo has his sword out, ready to slain somebody, while it looks like Macbeth is talking him out of it. I also see that they have different belts from each other to. So this picture sums up what I would thing Macbeth and Banquo would look like.

Having Ambition Towards Something

They're is always a different meaning towards ambition from other people, but I know what it means to me.  It means having the drive for getting bank, having a long term goal, or trying to do really well in life. There is always a positive sides to having ambition toward something. It shows that you have determination to what you want to do and how you'll get it. Though there are always people that can have a negative look on it. Though what I think of it being negative is that people doing anything to get to top. They'll claw and scratch their way to get what they want. Though if you failed, you just pissed off a lot people. Pretty much having ambition is either a positive thing for you or a negative thing.

If someone or anybody predicted that I was getting something I really wanted, I wouldn't know what to do. I probably would have my guard up, but I wouldn't believe it, in the first place. For other people, it depends on what they have in mind. Maybe someone wouldn't care about a thing a just screw it up because, that person it getting something they really want. On the other hand somebody would have their guard up 24/7 and try to not to change anything that they wouldn't normally do. So really thats what I would do, or someone else would do.

Macbeth 32 seconds

At beginning wondering about who is coming?
Find out that it’s Macbeth coming.
Praise Macbeth for soon becoming the king.
Macbeth talks how he will become king and become crowned in a little while.
One of the people there says they would wish to be him.
Then Macbeth says it could be done, maybe.
One of the people in the group stabs somebody in the group.
The person, who stabbed one of the people in the group, says he is closer to his deed.
He then kills himself. Macbeth comments on his death.
Three of the people left out of the group yelp about the two deaths.
Another person out of the group yells out he basically got stabbed and he is now dead.
Actor 8 says about a bleeding country.
Actor 5 yells out “ Out damn’d spot!” then dies.
Macbeth said “ Out, out, brief candle!” while, he almost about to die.
Actor 8 says” Turn, hell hound, turn.” Saying don’t die on me now.
Macbeth says before he dies “ Lay on Macduff.” Then dies.
Actor 8 says “ Hail King Scotland.” Then it ends.

While reading this short script I found two observations while reading this. One is that half of actors including Macbeth dying throughout the script. The second one was the actors 1,2, and 3 say their lines at the same time.

I also have two specific questions about the script. On line 9 of the script I didn’t understand what actor 5 meant by  Screw your courage to the sticking place.”
My second question is why does Macbeth die at the end.

A picture that summarizes the alchemist

Andrew Page
Mr. Parsons
English II
9/14/11

Description: Macintosh HD:English II:ahclemist pic.jpg

There were many things I saw while reading this novel. I read about Santiago’s adventure to his “Personal Legend”, you kind of got to know him personally and what he was like. You also see him becoming an alchemist through his journey to the pyramids. He also finds true love in Fatima, and wishes to be with her. Basically that’s what I think personally about reading this novel.

How I think the Picture above summarizes the book in many ways. It shows that he finally made it to the pyramids in search for his Personal Legend. You can also see in the night sky, the gypsy who told him about his Personal Legend. Also in between the two pyramids is possibly the man who beats up Santiago for his treasure. This picture in my eyes summarizes the novel of “ The Alchemist”

Alchemist Pictures and Passages

“There, he could exchange his book for a thicker one, fill his wine bottle, shave, and have a haircut; he had to prepare himself for his meeting with the girl, and he didn’t want to think about the possibility that some other shepherd, with a larger flock of sheep, had arrived there before him and asked for her hand.  It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting, he thought, as he looked again at the position of the sun, and hurried his pace.  He had suddenly remembered that, in Tarifa, there was an old woman who interpreted dreams.”
Pg. 11

It was the pure language of the World.  It required no explanation, just as the universe need none as it travels through endless time.  What the boy felt at that moment was that he was in the presence of the only women in his life, and that, with no need for words, she recognized the same thing.  He was more certain of it than anything in the world… …And when two such people encounter each other, and their eyes meet, the past and the future become unimportant.  There is only that moment, and the incredible certainty that everything under the sun has been written by one hand only.  It is the hand that evokes love, and creates a twin soul for every person in the world.  Without such love, one’s dreams would have on meaning.  Maktub, thought the boy.”

Value of Literature

We should always care about literature from present, past, and from other cultures. Literature has made a huge impact on today and for the future. One major problem without literature is we wouldn’t have books. We wouldn’t be able to track history as well as if we didn’t have books. The bible wouldn’t even exist if there weren’t any literature. Most likely there probably wouldn’t be any religion. Another importance of not having literature we wouldn’t be able to gain any knowledge around us. We wouldn’t be able to know anything about history. You wouldn’t be able to know what happened 10,000 years ago, 1000 years, and probably 5 years ago. We wouldn’t know all of the important things that happened in history that means so much us. Basically, literature has a huge impact what we know today and what we learn.

There are many positives in having a Personal Learning Network, or a PLN. It can make it more interesting to a person learning a certain subject. It shows what other people know and you could learn something new that you never knew before. It also can make it more easier to look up ideas that people know. So it is more efficient and easier and can make it more fun.

Expectations of Mr. Parsons Class and a Little About Myself

What I expect to learn in Mr. Parsons English class is multiple things. I expect to learn how to write a fuller essay and use better vocab in those essays. I also expect to learn how to think of ideas faster in my essays. It always takes me more than enough time to get my ideas flowing and be able to think of the right things to put in it to have a wonderful essay to be proud of. So those are basically the only expectations that I have for this English II class

My name is Andrew Page and I am in Mr. Parsons B period class. Things I love to do the most are play golf as much as I can. Which is basically once a week on Saturday’s and including practice for the school. Also I like to play guitar. I take guitar here as an elective, here, at North Broward Preparatory School. I’ve been in the class for about a good 5 years. I’ve enjoyed being in the class for all of those fantastic 5 years. It gives me something to do in my free time while I’m at home. Also in the class this year they have brought in classical guitars for use to learn on. It seems like something that I would enjoy and help me be a much better guitarist.

So this is basically what I want to expect in English is writing and thinking better in essays. Also you basically know what I like to do. So I hope that I will enjoy this year very well.
