The holidays

The holidays in our household are not really what they use to be. Each year around christmas time has been getting less and less cheerful. My dad is not really the holiday type of guy, he really doesn't care for christmas or any other holiday. My mom still cares somewhat about christmas, though instead of me helping her this year with christmas lights, I had do it all by myself with no help. Though I don't really care about christmas as much as I use to, since I'm older now. Though mainly, South Florida isn't really the state that really has a lot of christmas joy. In reality, if I were to go somewhere else, such as up north, it would be a different story. Though I'm not up north, so Christmas isn't really what it use to be, for me at least.

Emotions showed through Othello

Throughout the play of “ Othello” many of the characters emotions have changed and have been faked during the course of the play. Othello is really the main victim whose emotions have been screwed around with, all by Iago. Iago has also shown fake emotion towards everybody in the play. Whether it is showing hatred towards someone or pretending to care for someone, Iago uses this to his advantage. So through this essay, I will give examples on Othello’s emotions, and how Iago fakes his.

            As one of the main characters in the play, Iago has a strong hatred for Othello, and plots to kill him. Though, Iago shows that he is loyal to the moor Othello, even though he wants to kill him. Iago is very two-faced towards everybody, and can keep it a secret towards everybody. For an example, he stabs Cassio in the leg in act V, and then comes towards the end when he’s injured. He does a very good job acting though as if he was very concerned for him, even though he wants him dead, and he sent Roderigo out to kill him. There are many more examples of Iago showing fake emotion towards people, but there are too many to write about, so I’ll end it at that.            

            Othello is the main character that is involved in the play, and also is gets his emotions flustered at times. He is a man of good morals, is married to a Desdemona who is veneciation, and her father Brabantio hates him because he is black. Othello during the play is very trustful of Iago, and leans on him during some stressful situations. For example “Iago: And did you see the handkerchief? Othello: Was that mine? Immediately after, Othello shows rage and is set on killing Cassio, since he has his mother’s handkerchief. Much emotion was shown from Othello, whether it was fighting with Desdemona, or keeping people in order, he showed much of his true self during this play.

He wants to be

When I hear the title of this Song, it makes me immediately think about how Iago gets Cassio drunk. The beer drinking would relate to Cassio getting drunk, and the hellraising would relate to Cassio fighting Montano. So this song could not be a more perfect match to this scene

 The joint was jumpin like a cat on hot tin.

   Soundin a lot like a house congressional 

• Cassio. A knave teach me my duty!
  I'll beat the knave into a twiggen bottle.

• Roderigo. Beat me!

• Cassio. Dost thou prate, rogue?

 To me I think these lyrics go perfect with this scene for Cassio getting drunk. I think that if Shakespeare was in our time period, he would have used this song when Cassio was fighting Montano in a movie. The line "The joint was jumpin like a cat on hot tin." matches up perfect when Montano gets stabbed.

Person Spoken to: Iago 

What is going on when this passage is spoke? Othello is enraged by the thought of Desdemona being with Cassio, after firing him. Iago had just brought it up, since they just had seen him leave Desdemona hastly. Though if Iago is lying to Othello, he would be forced to kill him. 

Comment: Othello says " Be sure of it; give me ocular proof." Though Othello does ask for the handkerchief that he had given to Desdemona but she says that it is not with her, and does not believe that she has it.   

                                                                                                                                 

   Other than Iago being “Tactical”, he was also very “Misleading”, in that he had to lie his way through a lot of these problems. One example for when he lies, is when he and Roderigo were outside telling Brabantio about how his daughter was getting it in with Othello at that moment. That was most likely true, though saying Othello had kidnapped her, drugged her and had his way with her is a huge lie. Though, it did work for Iago, in that he almost had gotten Othello arrested because of Iago’s lies. Another example would be when Desdemona and Cassio were talking, and they hear Othello and Iago coming, which makes Cassio hastily disappear. Iago then pounces on saying “Ha, I like not that” “   What dost thou say?” “Nothing, my lord: or if I know not what.” “Was not that Cassio parted from my wife?” “Cassio, my lord! No, sure, I cannot think it, that he would steal away so guilty like, seeing you coming.” “ I do believe ‘ Twas he”. This could not have come at a better opportunity for Iago, to even screw with Othello like this. Lastly, Iago also lies about being friends with Roderigo, he calls him “This poor piece trash of Venice, whom I trash for his quick hunting, stand putting on.” Though he calls him a friend here “ I have professed me thy friend and I confess me knit to they deserving with cables of perdurable toughness”. I don’t think anybody would call they’re friend “This poor trash of Venice”. All of these quotes show, how Iago is a misleader towards everybody. Though being as diabolical as he is, he will do anything it takes to have Othello ruined.
